1721. Odisha signs concession agreements for major port projects, Rs 18,654 crore investment to boost maritime trade
- On June 26, 2025, Odisha government signed ₹18,654 crore port deals in two major concession agreements. One for expanding Gopalpur Port and another for developing a new captive jetty at Jatadhari. This step is aimed at transforming Odisha into a key maritime trade hub.
- Adani Ports and JSW Utkal Steel are set to create around 8,450 direct and indirect employment opportunities, offering a significant boost to local job markets in Jagatsinghpur and Ganjam districts.
- Future ready port infrastructure on the rise With expansion plans at existing ports and new developments proposed at Inchudi, Bahuda, Subarnarekha and Astaranga, Odisha is positioning itself as a leader in port led economic growth through public & private partnerships.
1722. Jammu and Kashmir’s heritage silk industry sees revival as production rises
- On June 25, 2025, Jammu and Kashmir’s sericulture industry reported a revival, with cocoon production reaching 850,000 kg in 2024–25, an 18% increase from prior years, and raw silk output rising to 121,000 kg, driven by government schemes like Silk Samagra and Holistic Agriculture Development Programme.
- Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Director of Sericulture, highlighted infrastructure improvements, including 800 rearing sheds and equipment provision, alongside capacity-building programs and summer rearing initiatives, boosting productivity for 27,000 families.
- The region’s bivoltine silk, known for its premium quality, is gaining national recognition, reducing India’s reliance on raw silk imports (10.813 tonnes between 2017–2019), with high-yielding mulberry plants supplied for cluster plantations.
1723. Maharashtra approves Rs 20,787 crores for Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway
- On June 24, 2025, in Mumbai, the Maharashtra cabinet approved ₹20,787 crore for land acquisition for the 802 km Maharashtra Shaktipeeth Expressway, connecting Pavnar (Wardha) to Patradevi (Sindhudurg) on the Maharashtra-Goa border.
- The expressway will connect 12 districts, boost pilgrimage tourism by linking major Shaktipeeths and Jyotirlingas, and reduce Nagpur-Goa travel time from 18 hours to 8 hours.
- Facing farmer opposition in Kolhapur, the cabinet approved only the Pavnar-Sangli stretch (700 km) for now and asked MSRDC to propose an alternative route for the Sangli-Sindhudurg section, with consultations planned with local stakeholders.

1724. Defence ministry inks 13 deals to boost Army's operational readiness
- On June 24, 2025, in New Delhi, it was reported that the Defence Ministry signed 13 contracts worth ₹1,982 crore for emergency procurement of air defence missiles, kamikaze drones, and counter-drone systems under EP-5, following Operation Sindoor against Pakistan.
- The contracts include Igla-1S VSHORAD systems, integrated drone detection systems, Nagastra-1R kamikaze drones, Switch surveillance UAVs, radars, night sights, bulletproof jackets, and quick-reaction fighting vehicles, with delivery targeted within one year.
- Ministry of Defence said induction of "modern and mission-critical" weapon systems and equipment through the 13 contracts will enhance "situational awareness, lethality, mobility, and protection" for troops deployed in counter-terror environments.
1725. DRDO-Bharat Forge develop an assault rifle lighter than a kitchen pressure cooker, built for urban warfare
- On June 25, 2025, it was reported that DRDO and Bharat Forge, in Pune, have jointly developed a new Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbine for the Indian Armed Forces, aimed at urban warfare and counter-insurgency operations.
- The 5.56x30mm carbine, weighing 3.3 kg with an effective range of 200 meters, features a short barrel, 30-round magazine, and is compatible with both NATO and INSAS ammunition.
- The development marks a step forward in meeting the Indian Armed Forces' long-standing requirement for a lightweight, efficient weapon system suited for modern combat environments.
1726. Dwarka Expressway Gets Smarter! India’s First AI-Powered Traffic Management System Launched
- On June 25, 2025, National Highways Authority of India rolled out an AI-based Advanced Traffic Management System along the 56.46 km stretch of Dwarka Expressway and NH‑48, marking a major leap in smart road infrastructure.
- Equipped with 110 high resolution PTZ cameras, real time incident detection, speed, seatbelt and triple rider monitoring and a central control room tied into NIC’s e‑challan portal, the system is designed to detect up to 14 types of violations automatically.
- Developed by Indian Highways Management Company Ltd and implemented under 2023 NHAI smart highway guidelines, this initiative is being hailed as a national model for AI‑driven traffic governance and highway safety.

1727. In a first, India enters top 100 in SDG rankings
- India has entered the top 100 SDG rankings for the first time in a report released by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN) on 24 June 2025 , ranking 99th among 193 countries.
- According to the report, India scored 67, while China was ranked 49th, the US was 44th, and neighbouring countries Bhutan (74th), Nepal (85th) and Bangladesh (114th).
- The report's authors said that SDG progress has stalled at the global level, with only 17 per cent of the 17 targets adopted by the UN member countries in 2015 projected to be achieved by 2030.

1728. Rs 20,787 Crore, 800-Km Shaktipeeth Expressway To Link 12 Districts Gets Maharashtra Cabinet Nod; Will Cut Nagpur–Goa Travel Time To 8 Hours
- On June 24, 2025, Maharashtra government approved ₹20,787 crore for 802 km Shaktipeeth Expressway cutting the Nagpur to Goa journey from about 18 hours to just 8 hours and linking 12 districts across Maharashtra.
- ₹12,000 crore will come via a HUDCO loan to help acquire approximately 7,500 hectares of land a crucial step towards launching construction.
- The expressway is planned to connect major pilgrimage sites like Tuljapur, Kolhapur and Ambajogai, aiming to boost religious tourism across the state.

1729. Centre approves ₹10,637-crore road, tunnel projects for Kashmir
- On June 23, 2025, the Centre approved 19 road and tunnel projects worth Rs 10,637 crore for Jammu & Kashmir, aimed at reducing travel time and ensuring all-weather connectivity to frontier districts near the Line of Control (LoC), as announced by Union Minister.
- Key projects include the Rs 3,830 crore Peer-Ki-Gali tunnel for Kashmir Valley connectivity and the Rs 3,330 crore Sadhana tunnel for year-round access to Karnah, alongside other initiatives like the Zaznar Shopian section (Rs 852 crore) and a four-lane Lal Chowk-Parimpora flyover (Rs 700 crore), per Greater Kashmir.
- J&K Lieutenant Governor of J&K and Chief Minister hailed the approvals as transformative for infrastructure, tourism, and troop mobility, with Abdullah calling it a “major achievement,”
1730. Emmvee secures ₹1,500 crore solar module order from KPI Green Energy
- On June 24, 2025, It was Reported that, Emmvee, a leading Indian solar module and cell manufacturer, received an order worth ₹1,500 crore from KPI Green Energy Ltd. (part of the KP Group) for the supply of high-efficiency TopCon bifacial solar modules for an upcoming solar project in Gujarat.
- The modules will be produced at Emmvee’s Karnataka-based facilities in Dabaspet and Sulibele, supporting the company’s robust manufacturing infrastructure, which includes 7.8 GWp module capacity and 2.94 GWp cell capacity, as part of its contribution to India’s clean energy goals.
- The two companies, which have been collaborating since 2021, reaffirmed their long-term partnership, with both leaderships Manjunatha D.V. (Emmvee) and Dr. Faruk G. Patel (KPI Green) emphasizing mutual trust, reliable execution, and a shared vision for accelerating India’s sustainable energy transition.
